My dear veterinarian fell in love with, and purchased, the original felt, Polar Bear Under Water, I created in wool and silk and alpaca, from a snapshot I had taken of polar bears in the Milwaukee Zoo decades ago. They were playing in their icy pool and I was excitedly watching them from the window into their habitat. Though the pretty blues and greens and shimmery iridescent threads feel playfully pretty, the felt's title, for me, now carries a more sinister warning. Their natural habitat is melting and soon all polar bears will be under water.
