My first original wholey wool felt stocking, Silent Night, Wholly Night, is made of thick wool batting from my friend Annette's ewe, a shearing given to me raw in 2005. That bat of wool I had to carefully clean, pick out straw, bugs, and turds, wash several times without accidental felting by agitation, rinse, dry, card, comb and dye! I learned a lot from that gift! I learned that I wanted my time spent on vreating the art and to trust and pay other professionals for treating the wool! I wet felted a thick bat of clean cream colored natural wool, then shaped it into a hollow stocking shape, then needle-felted bits of dyed wool for the images adorning the outside. The quiet scene of a mother nursing her baby and another scene counting sheep on a starry night. This warmth holds love and a comforting song.
This stocking can be displayed seasonally or all year long. For added freshness and longevity, fill with aromatic lavender buds, cedar blocks, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and bay leaves or eucalyptus leaves.
